Parents of K4 Students:
Hello! I would like to introduce myself. My name is Valerie Towberman and I will be your child’s teacher for this upcoming school year. I graduated from Woodcrest Baptist Academy in 1985, and have been a member of Woodcrest Baptist Church for the past 39 years. I also graduated from Northland Baptist Bible College in 1988. This will be my 15th year teaching K4 at WBA. I am married and have 3 children Michael 26, Kelly 25, Ashley 21 years old and a new son-in-law Karl and a precious grandbaby Miya. All my children have attended WBA since K4 and have graduated from here. I am very excited for this year to begin! Before you know it, school will be starting. And I wanted to let you know of some of the procedures in our class this year.
BASIC RULE – Make sure everything is child-friendly. In other words, your child should be able to open and close his/her own things, whether it is lunch items or clothing items.
Below you will find the school supply list for the coming fall.
A Beka Bible (KJV) in GOOD condition (These can be purchased in school office for $10)
School bag regular size (no small bags please, it needs to be able to hold their lunch box, folder, and any art project they may have)
School box regular size (no extra large boxes please)
Lunch box
Two - 2 pocket folders with pockets on the bottom (K4 students need 2 of these because I change these out after Christmas.)
1 Large box of tissues
1 Container of disinfecting wipes (ex. Clorox, Lysol, store brand, etc.)
1 Container of antibacterial wipes (ex. Wet Ones, store brand, etc.)
Gym Shoes (These shoes are not to be worn to school. They will be kept at school.)
The school will be purchasing the crayons and glue sticks for the year. You will need to purchase a nap mat from the school. We like all nap mats to be the same. The money for these nap mats ($10) will be added to your school bill.
If you have any questions concerning the items on the supply list, please contact me at 763-242-6796 (either talk or text) or you can email me at valerie.towberman@woodcrestbaptistacademy.org.
Class Policies
Bathroom Breaks – Clothing should be easy for them to work with. Little boys do not need to wear belts. But if they do, they should practice buckling and unbuckling their belts.
Shoes – School and gym shoes should be easy for them to put on and take off by THEMSELVES. Slip-ons or Velcro are recommended. PLEASE NO TIE SHOES. NO FLIP-FLOPS, PLEASE! Shoes should be playground friendly.
Clothing – School dress is required for K4. Please refer to the student handbook for any questions you might have.
Blankets for Nap Time –They may bring a small blanket (a beach towel works great) to cover up with and a small “huggie” if they like. These items will be left at school and not to be brought home and back daily. I will send these items home at the end of each quarter for cleaning.
Pencil Boxes – Please buy the regular size pencil box no jumbo boxes. Also DO NOT buy pencils. The school will provide the correct size pencils we want the children using. Crayons will be bought by school. I have found that Crayola Crayons work the best and I only want them using certain colors. This is why we purchase the correct crayons we want the children using. The school will be supplying scissors and glue sticks for your child to use. You will not need to purchase any of these.
Lunch Boxes – Your child should be able to work the latch or zipper on his/her lunchbox. The school provides milk cartons for lunch. Lunch and snack items should be child-friendly, easy for them to open and close. Please supply a spoon or fork if your child will need one. Have food items peeled, cut up, and put into containers or zip-lock bags. We ask your child to eat the nutritious part of his/her lunch first before the treats and desserts. We are not able to heat up your child’s lunch. If their lunch needs to stay warm, you can send it in a thermos.
Snack Time – Fresh fruits, veggies, crackers, cheese or any other healthy foods are preferred for snack time. Please do not send foods that will spill (juice cups, applesauce, yogurt, etc.). A basic rule I have is if it needs a spoon or fork, save it for the lunchroom.
Wipes –I would like the students to bring in two different kinds of wipes. The first one is disinfecting wipes (like Clorox, Lysol, a generic brand, etc.). These are for wiping the tables down before each school day starts. The second one is antibacterial wipes (like Wet Ones, a generic brand, etc. please do not send baby wipes). These are for wiping their hands before lunch. We do not get a bathroom break right before lunch, so I found this good way to get their hands clean before they eat.
Communications – We will use your child’s folder as our means for corresponding with each other. Any notes from me, along with their daily work, will be sent home in the folder. You may also send notes to me in the folder. Also any monies you would send should be in a well-marked envelope and placed in the folder. I will be marking your child’s folder inside. One side will be marked “Stays Home” and the other side will be marked “Comes Back”. I have found this is a great way to determine what papers you may keep and what needs to be brought back to school. Also you may contact me by phone or at my email address listed above or during the school day on my classroom phone 763-463-7901.
We will also be providing masks for the children to wear while in the classroom. I have heart problems. Mr. Isaacs would like me and the children to wear masks. These masks will stay at school and I will launder them weekly. There will be times when we will take the masks off like during phonics. I need to see and hear the children sounding letters, as well as for them to see my mouth form the letters and sounds. If there is a problem with your child wearing a mask while in the classroom with me, please feel free to contact me.
These are a few things I thought you would like to know before orientation. I would love for your child’s school supplies items to be brought on orientation night. I will put them away on Tuesday and they will be already for school come Wednesday. I hope you have a wonderful summer and I look forward to seeing you all at orientation (August 31st).
In Christ,
Mrs. Valerie Towberman
